Are you wanting to move into a supervisory role in the construction industry?

This programme is for anyone wanting to take the next step in their construction career and/or those already working in supervisory roles who want to have their skills recognised.
You must be employed in the construction industry and have employer approval for access to supervision opportunities within their company of employment.

Entry requirements
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
- A level 4 qualification in a construction related area or equivalent work experience.
- Special and discretionary admission is available.
- Applicants must be employed in the construction industry and have employer approval for access to supervision opportunities within their company of employment.
- It is expected that applicants for this programme will have technical knowledge, skills, and experience in a construction-related trade that they will be supervising.
English language entry requirements
International applicants are required to have an IELTS score of 5.5 (general or academic) with no individual band lower than 5 from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules.

Programme structure
The below four courses are mandatory (60 credits):
CONS5601 Contracts (15 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to read and understand contracts.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Apply legislative knowledge to the planning of construction or construction-manufacturing projects
- Use information from contract documents to set-up project files.
CONS5603 Programming and scheduling (15 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to implement a programme of work for a construction related project.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Implement a programme of work for a construction related project.
CONS5604 Planning (15 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to plan and coordinate a construction related project.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Plan and coordinate a construction related project.
- Develop a plan for workforce development in a construction or a construction related environment.
CONS5605 Site management (15 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to manage a construction related work site.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Supervise a project on a construction related work site.
- Lead and monitor staff in a construction related team.

CONS5612 Methods and practices in commercial construction (10 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of methods and practices for on-site supervision and current technologies, practices and materials used in a commercial construction context.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Develop techniques for on-site supervision of work programmes in a commercial construction environment.
- Implement strategies to maintain knowledge of current technologies, practices and materials used in a commercial construction context.
CONS5622 Methods and practices in construction related manufacturing (10 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of methods and practices for on-site supervision and current technologies, practices and materials used in a construction related manufacturing context.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Re-develop techniques for on-site supervision of work programmes in a construction related manufacturing environment.
- Implement strategies to maintain knowledge of current technologies, practices and materials used in a construction or a construction related manufacturing context.
CONS5632 Methods and practices in construction related trades (10 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of methods and practices for on-site supervision and?current technologies, practices and materials used in a construction related trades context.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Develop techniques for on-site supervision of work programmes in a construction related trades environment.
- Implement strategies to maintain knowledge of current technologies,?practices and materials used in a construction related trades context.
CONS5642 Methods and practices in residential building (10 credits)
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of methods and practices for on-site supervision and current technologies, practices and materials used in a residential building context.
Upon the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:
- Re-develop techniques for on-site supervision of work programmes in a residential building environment.
- Implement strategies to maintain knowledge of current technologies, practices and materials used in a residential building context.

Further training or study
This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with strands in?Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, and the New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology (Level 6).
Career opportunities
Graduates of the construction-related trades strand will be able to work in a?construction-related trade in a range of supervisory roles including Team Leader, Supervisor, Operations Team Leader, or Operations Supervisor.
With further training and/or work experience, graduates may be able to move into?management roles within residential building, commercial construction,?construction-related trades, or manufacturing.
