“The support has been immense, it was personalised, it gave me an edge and helped me get a job.”

“The careers team has been amazing throughout my journey at MIT. The Careers Fest, resume making, interview preparation and practice, ideas for free online studies, they make time to speak to you and always responded to my emails quickly – the support has been immense, it was personalised to my requirements, it gave me an edge and they helped me get a job.
They were my go-to for anything career. They advise the best websites for us to apply onto. I would regularly receive emails regarding new opportunities and I would keep applying.??I am absolutely grateful for the multiple Teams calls to give me suggestions, improving my resume, feedback and support. They pushed me and I applied and here I am!
Oh Yes! Use the CES team.
They guide and support you till you get a job.”

“The CES team makes sure you are ready for the workforce!”

“The Career and Employment (CES) team makes sure you are ready for the workforce! They offer career festivals, they get employers to come and give talks, where you pick up lots of tips. I felt lost initially, but they helped me to rewrite my whole CV, changing it from being an absolute mess to a professional CV. They taught me interview techniques and etiquette; they guided me where to look and how to apply for work. I searched and applied for jobs online, I was bold and searched companies I wanted to work for and applied directly to them, I even contacted their HR departments.
Within a month of graduating with my MIT qualification, I landed a job. All of this was due to the professional help and skills I learned from the careers team at MIT and contributed to land me the job I always dreamed of.
I would recommend you use the CES team from your first day. The earlier the better as it takes time to transform into a high-quality professional.”

“CES will help you develop skills that will bring you very far in securing a job.”

“The assistance and advice received from the CES team were world-class. The team went beyond what was expected, such as helping me understand and help write a CV that met NZ’s job structure and layout, prepare for interviews, check my progress and celebrate my success. CES arranged exclusive events with big accounting firms, which provided an opportunity to connect and chat with recruiters about their application process/requirements, which helped me make career decisions.
My qualification helped me secure a graduate role at Deloitte NZ as a Junior Associate. I applied for graduate roles at all the top six accounting firms in NZ, had interviews at five firms, and was presented with three employment offers.
I recommended CES to more than eight fellow students because of my success and the great service and assistance received. CES will customise the support you need to help you develop skills that will take you very far in securing a job.”

The culture of MIT is like a supportive family. The helpful and supportive culture of the team here will benefit you so you can achieve your goals easily.
When I was looking for a job placement the careers team prepared me for interview questions, they helped me apply for jobs and contacted the employers to follow up on my application.”

“I was astounded by the level of assistance and professionalism.”

“To be perfectly honest, I have started the MIT careers and employment process with some doubt as I have been somewhat trying to find an opportunity to change careers for the past 3 months. However, I was astounded by the level of assistance and professionalism I have received from the careers and employment team who not only helped me improve my CV but also provided a very close to real life interview practice which prepared me well for the interview – the entire experience made me gain confidence and trust within my skills and eventually led me to successfully being offered employment with NZ’s largest bank!
I have many friends who graduated and are struggling to find employment but I feel with MIT’s education, guidance and self-desire to succeed, any prospective student will already have an advantage before getting out into the real world to find a job and build a great career.
Many thanks to you and to the whole team who helped me from day one. I will be considering further studies at MIT in order to self-develop and will undoubtedly approach the team again if I need any further assistance in the future.”

“I encourage all students at MIT to speak to someone from the CES team today.”

“Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and Manukau Institute of Technology (Business) has incorporated exactly that, into the way it teaches its students and transforms them into the leaders of tomorrow.
The Career and Employment Solutions team are a vital asset to MIT as they are the ones who contact and direct talent to potential employers. They constantly strive to ensure that there are a variety of jobs for students from all disciplines to choose from.
My journey with the CES team began in my early days at MIT and they have been a force to reckon with. Right from helping students with their cover letter and CV, to following up with the status of applications and keeping students updated on the jobs they’ve applied for (sometimes on a daily basis), the team at CES MIT has been absolutely instrumental and proactive in helping me locate the best possible career opportunity. I would like to thank the team, who have been in touch with me since day one.
I encourage all students at MIT to speak to someone from the CES team today to find your next prospective employer as opportunities don’t just happen, you create them.”

“I would recommend our local businesses to consider MIT students for internships.”

“I would recommend our local businesses to consider MIT students for internships, so everyone has an opportunity to get a job out of it. We just all want to land a job.
In my final year of completing a Bachelor of Applied Management at MIT, I completed an internship as a digital coordinator with a digital marketing agency. I helped to get a new platform, aimed at the property market, off the ground. I learned a lot and my coursework prepared me well for my internship.
Studying at MIT and completing my industry placement has given me a lot of confidence. I have now been employed full-time with the agency where I completed my internship.”
Internships are a great way to develop talented locals while introducing different perspectives and skills to the workplace. Read more about Caitlin’s internship while studying with MIT.

“He raukura tēnei o Te Aho Matua.
I studied under / I am a graduate of Te Aho Matua / the Kura Kaupapa Māori model of education. My first exposure to mainstream education was when I enrolled for MIT.
MIT offers great support, even coming from overseas, they offer support for all walks of life. I enrolled with Te Ara Oranga, and they offer a service that supports students from the day of enrolment to the day of employment.
My ideal job looks like a position in the healthcare sector that is underpinned by Māori concepts, for Māori.“

“Make the most of the support given – the support is there.”
“I enjoy the support services such as Te Ara Oranga, they’re very understandable and will do all they can get us across the line – from finances to scholarship opportunities, nursing kits and awhi in travel, ka rawe!
The kaiako I’ve met has been beautiful to me on this learning journey. Also, the opportunities I got as a tauira, travelling Aōtearoa and meeting new people, has been awesome and I know it will continue for the rest of my studies here.
Understand your why as this will be the drive for you to get past the finish line, make the most of the support given – the support is there, and embrace your culture.

“The most lovely staff – I couldn’t recommend anyone else.”
“I want to become the best Māori Croatian nurse out there.
Knowing there aren’t too many Māori nurses I wanted to show that we aren’t just the stereotype people make us out to be. I wanted to show my babies that if you want to be something, go for it.
MIT and Te Ara Oranga provided me with a safe space and friendly staff/lecturers that were willing to help me reach my goal. They knew my situation. They knew I was struggling with my babies, and I’m annoying with questions, but any question I had they would answer and even if that person didn’t know they would find a way to get the answer. The most lovely staff – I couldn’t recommend anyone else.
I enjoyed the people, the diverse cultures, and the amazingness of everyone coming together to reach the same goals.
My advice is ‘just do it’. You are never too old or too young, if this single mama of three can do it, so can you! “
